Tenerife is the largest and most-visited of the Canary Islands in Spain. It’s a hub for beautiful weather, the world’s largest carnival, and home to the oldest university in the Canaries. Its other standout quality is the fresh and delicious food Tenerife serves. We recommend the best places to eat, slurp mojitos, indulge in the most wonderful papas arrugadas, and more.
Tip #1: El Rincón de Juan Carlos
This two-Michelin-star restaurant on the fifth floor of the Royal Hideaway Corales Beach resort is well known for beautiful sunsets and outstanding cuisine.
The two Padrón brothers, Juan Carlos and Jonathan, focus on traditional Canary Island recipes created with local produce and selected international products. The two brothers grew up with a chef for a father and decided to follow in his footsteps. Juan Carlos collected experience in France and Madrid, while Jonathan became a pastry chef and sommelier.
The restaurant has been recognized by many gastronomic guides. El Rincón de Juan Carlos features one tasting menu with several wine pairing options: two stations consisting of ten tasting dishes followed by three superb dessert options.
It is a treat for your taste buds, or as Chef Juan Carlos himself calls it, “a logical, grounded and coherent cuisine in which the diner can clearly appreciate the flavors; without disguise or techniques or presentations that sacrifice the essence of the dish.“

Tip #6: Kensei
If you are looking for a culinary bridge between Japan and the Atlantic, Kensei is the place to be. Located in the prestigious Hotel Bahía del Duque in Costa Adeje, this restaurant is a true masterpiece of contemporary Japanese cuisine. The name „Kensei“ translates to „master swordsman,“ a title that perfectly reflects the precision and skill you will find in every dish.
Executive Chef Víctor Planas, who spent over a decade honing his craft at the famous Kabuki and multiple Michelin-starred kitchens, leads the team. His philosophy is a serene balance between Japanese tradition and creative, modern influences.
The menu features high-quality ingredients like Balfegó tuna, A5 Wagyu, and fresh Atlantic sea bass. A real showstopper is the „Scallops and Japanese Mushrooms on Fire,“ which arrives at your table wrapped in flames. For the full experience, you should try the „Chef’s Tasting Menu,“ a curated journey through Planas’s best creations.
Whether you choose to sit at the exclusive sushi counter, in the „Secret Garden“ overlooking a private lagoon, or on the oceanfront terrace with stunning Atlantic views, Kensei offers an atmosphere of silent luxury that is hard to match.

Another outstanding restaurant in the little town of La Caleta is Mirlo. The Mediterranean fusion restaurant offers a breathtaking view with every meal.

The separate vegan menu makes it easy for plant-based eaters to enjoy local ingredients and traditional meals. Canary potatoes with mojo sauce, Mediterranean salad, and tomato tartare with guacamole and radish combine plant-based eating with tradition.

Tip #10: Makika&Co
In the heart of La Laguna, enjoy the best coffee and cakes at Makika&Co. This family-owned café and bakery opened its doors in February 2016 and has pleased locals and tourists with a sweet tooth ever since. The French specialty bakery bakes everything in-house and serves it on a beautiful patio of an antique 18th-century house.
Coffee lovers will enjoy Makika’s specialty coffee, which is served from early morning until the afternoon. Savory pastry items can be found on the menu as well and range from a good variety of quiches to croissants and sandwiches.
Freshly pressed juice varieties and milkshakes for hot days are on their drink menu. The pastry menu reads nicely, and it’s hard to decide between fruit or chocolate tartlets, rich and decadent brownies, and moist carrot cakes.
